"A good leader inspires people to have confidence in the leader; a great leader inspires people to have confidence in themselves" - Eleanor Roosevelt.
Although family day care is the optimal model for child care arrangements for both children and families, the model itself brings a range of risks and considerations very different from Centre Based Services, which of course the fundamental differences are monitoring multiple environments (residences), monitoring people not engaged with service delivery (residents, visitors) and other risks, different at each residence and each educator’s capacity (cars and car seats, pets, BBQ’s, plants, fencing, glass).
Providers of family day care service’s regularly express concern of how to optimise the supervision of educators (contractors), report stress and worry of what educators are ‘actually’ doing, and express frustration at educators not fully comprehending the governance structure and liability (risk) carried by the Approved Provider as educators often push back with “it’s my home business”.
Leadership teams are stretched by assessing compliance, risk, quality, attitudes, capacity, practice, and comprehension often with little to no experience or training in leadership and capacity building, many simply do not hold the knowledge to drive and embed change and improvement.
JPS is committed to ensuring Approved Providers have systems, processes and the ‘right’ leaders in place to ensure every reasonable precaution is taken to protect the Service, and we are equally committed to building capacity, value and attraction to families for the family day care sector

Coaching, Mentoring and Professional Development
Coaching, mentoring and professional development are cornerstones to any and all professionals, particularly those in leadership.
A coach or mentor builds ongoing relationships and helps individuals and teams think more clearly, develop their own solutions, support professional and personal growth through powerful questions and informed conversations.
“Coaching and mentoring builds clarity, performance and self-awareness”.
- Are you or your team worried or scared about being assessed or audited?
- Are your Policies and Procedures being followed and implemented completely?
- Do you know how to enforce the legislation requirements throughout your service, through capacity building and role-modelling?
- What would your service be rated if you were assessed right now, today?
“Rectifying issues, misunderstandings and providing information is tokenistic if there is no clear shared strategy, it simply results in ‘rinse and repeat’ patterns of practice”.
Once the right strategy is decided by you, we will set both short- and long-term goals, with clear responsibilities and analysis points to determine overall growth and success.
With coaching we are able to address and build the confidence needed for your entire service to:
- Cope when faced with a Regulatory Inspection.
- Articulate to the Regulatory Officers the principles of the educational program or the service’s philosophy in practice.
Preparing leaders to embed philosophy, policies and quality practices will enable your service to improve within one year and in most cases transforms a family day care service to be on track to Exceeding the National Standard.
Wouldn’t it be nice to no longer be fearful but confident? you will no longer need to worry about:
- Compliance or spot visits
- Ratings and assessment visits
Coaching and Mentoring packages start at as little as $1,200 a small investment to embed improvement and quality practice, including the now enforceable Child Safe Standards.
